Thundercat - Glasgow

 Thundercat...

Next on the list, was a place I had originally visited because of a TikTok, so it was only right for it to be included. To hear that SoHo on Miller Street was closing was heart-breaking for all its fans, including me, thankfully it was softened by the fact there was a new restaurant all ready to fill the void, and under the same management. The restaurant being, Thundercat Pub and Diner. This relatively new addition to Merchant City is perfectly placed next door to Paesano's, a previous feature of the blog. Like many places in Glasgow,  the American style diner is located on the basement level, with the staircase full of lighting bolts and graphics, being the first thing to greet you. The interior of Thundercat is like a sophisticated TGI's, an American experience without the famous franchise's tack that we all associate with the establishment. The low-lighting complemented by multiple red neon signs to give off a dive bar vibe without the grit.

It was no surprise to me after I had been, that Thundercat was in fact a sister restaurant of the beloved favourite Buck's Bar. If you are part of the small percentage in Glasgow who have yet to visit, then I highly recommend you do, of course after you try Thundercat! I was lucky enough to experience all Thundercat has to offer  before the restrictions came in to place forcing the restaurant to close its doors temporarily. However, with their new delivery service up and running whilst they wait to reopen, this blog gave me the perfect excuse to try it again. Their takeaway menu is much the same as their original, with all the classics you would expect to see. I decided to go with the buttermilk fried chicken burger as looking at their socials it was one of the most featured, and looked too good to resist. With a simple phone call, and the choice to pay in cash or over the phone, the whole process was pretty simple. Considering the quality of food they were offering, delivery was much faster then expected with it at our door within 40 minutes, still hot.

My burger surprisingly had a kick to it, which was an added element that I was not complaining about! The burger itself has so much packed between the brioche bun accompanied with crinkle cut fries made it the perfect meal. The rest of the group having the 'smashed cheeseburger' and 'chi-haggis deep dish pizza'. All the food was to a delicious standard and only made me wish that the meals were all endless! Another exciting feature they have to offer is the option of takeaway cocktails along with your meal, which I am kicking myself for not trying out. Next time I go, which is a definite, I cant wait to try the different flavoursome food they have on offer.

Now for the money side of things, each of us were £10 for our meals, with a £3 delivery charge. Considering the standard of food they were able to deliver was on par with their restaurant quality, I was more then happy to pay that price. Especially in times like these its important to support local businesses when they are unable to open to their full capacity, and to help in any way you can.

Until next time,
